OpenAI agreed to pay Oracle $30B a year for data center services

OpenAI has acknowledged it is the client in Oracle’s $30 billion-a-year data center agreement disclosed in June. CEO Sam Altman confirmed the deal in an X post and blog entry but did not verify the exact sum.

The arrangement was first announced in an Oracle SEC filing that omitted the customer’s name, sending shares to record highs and boosting Larry Ellison’s net worth.

OpenAI says the contract covers 4.5 gigawatts of capacity under Stargate, a $500 billion infrastructure project with Oracle and SoftBank. SoftBank is not participating in this specific contract.

Altman has stated that OpenAI’s annual recurring revenue is now $10 billion, meaning the Oracle deal alone is triple its current yearly income.
