Apple Intelligence, announced at WWDC 2024, marks Apple’s entry into generative AI. Presented as “AI for the rest of us,” the platform integrates into familiar apps and introduces new tools for writing, visuals, and voice assistance.

Writing support includes summarization, proofreading, and composition, while Genmoji and Image Playground offer visual creativity. Siri gains deeper contextual understanding and cross-app actions, with a full overhaul targeted for 2026. Visual Intelligence and Live Translation will arrive in iOS 26.

The rollout began in October 2024 alongside iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, initially in U.S. English. More languages will be added in 2025. Devices supported include iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, and M1-based Macs and iPads.

Apple Intelligence runs smaller models directly on devices, preserving privacy. For complex requests, Private Cloud Compute processes data securely on Apple Silicon servers.

Integration with ChatGPT through OpenAI extends Siri and writing functionality. Apple has hinted at possible support for Google Gemini in the future. Developers will also have access to Foundation Models for offline AI in their own apps.

Apple’s roadmap includes a major Siri upgrade in 2026, positioning the assistant as a cornerstone of its AI strategy.
