Apple appeals EU’s €500M fine over App Store payment restraints

Share

On Monday, Apple filed an appeal against a €500 million fine from the European Commission tied to its App Store payment rules. The EU said in April that Apple’s restrictions on directing users to outside payment platforms violated the Digital Markets Act.

Apple’s updated EU fee model, launched in June, imposes various charges for alternative payment use. The company said these adjustments were aimed at meeting regulatory demands.

In its appeal, Apple argued the penalty is unwarranted and harmful to developers and consumers. It said the Commission’s interpretation forces operational changes that go beyond what the DMA requires.
