Meta says it will let candidates use AI in some job interviews

Meta is piloting a new coding interview process that allows candidates to use AI tools during assessments. Internal communications, verified by 404 Media, reveal the company is recruiting internal staff to participate in mock interviews as it develops and refines the format.

The initiative reflects the growing integration of AI assistants and agents into professional workflows, particularly in software engineering. By including these tools in interviews, Meta aims to simulate the real working environment its engineers operate in while reducing the risk of LLM-based cheating.

“Meta is developing a new type of coding interview in which candidates have access to an AI assistant,” an internal message stated. “This is more representative of the developer environment that our future employees will work in, and also makes LLM-based cheating less effective.”

A Meta spokesperson confirmed the experiment, adding: “We’re obviously focused on using AI to help engineers with their day-to-day work, so it should be no surprise that we’re testing how to provide these tools to applicants during interviews.”
