Amazon disputes report that it raised prices of popular items since Trump took office

In response to a Wall Street Journal article, Amazon denied that its prices on basic goods have significantly increased due to tariffs. The WSJ reviewed 2,500 items and concluded that prices rose an average of 5% between January 20 and July 1.

Amazon argued the data was selectively chosen and that some increases were the result of sales ending. The company named Dove deodorant and Yogi Tea as examples.

The retailer stressed that its dynamic pricing system creates regular shifts in prices, making direct comparisons over time difficult.

National inflation data shows a slight rise in costs, matching some of the WSJ’s broader findings.
